Biblical topics like the rapture of the church, history and prophecy capture the interest and imagination of many in bible studies, I also find myself spending hours searching its pages looking for clues seeking answers to the many questions I find myself pondering over. Though I firmly believe or am totally persuaded the church will not be here when the subject of this page enters the world stage, I like many find the subject of the final antichrist one of interest the only reason I can give for being interested is that it is in the Bible. In the web sites I have looked into and commentaries I have browsed through on this individual he has been portrayed as being a number of different people from a Pope to Gorge Bush, oh come on people leave poor George out of this, I wouldn't want his job if it was given to me with four years supply of aspirin. As countries such as Rome to Russia to a nation or person within the European Union and the US, cities again Rome to Moscow, one in the EU and New York along with a number of others I seem to have forgotten, they being so far off the planet. I personally believe the Bible particularly the book of Daniel leads us directly to the country of his origin, Syria.

The Book Of Daniel.
A book that stands alone in its time as book of Bible prophecy has become to me a road map clearly explaining the path from the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar's Babylon to the future kingdom of the antichrist our little old Mr. 666 of Revelation 13.
Daniel 2.
2:19. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
The vision of the night or dream in which God revealed to Daniel as many would know is that of king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the symbolic image in his dream was a prophetic vision of man built kingdoms including Babylon and following that eventually lead to the last one which Jesus Himself will destroy in His soon coming second advent at the end of this present age. The best way to follow Daniel's road map I guess is to break down individually one by one the kingdoms symbolically given to Daniel in a number of visions during his lifetime as a captive in Babylon as he penned each one.

king Nebuchadnezzar 11 son of Nabopolassar, Semitic - Nabukudurriusur , Hebrew - Nebuchadnezzar reigned in Babylon from approximately 605 BC to 562 BC and was one of the last Chaldean Kings. The growth and conquests of the Empire attributed to earlier Kings, Nebuchadnezzar conquests seem restricted to that of Judea and Jerusalem, his main activities being the beautifying of the Babylonian city and edifying himself.
Daniel 2.

2:36. This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

2:37. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

2:38. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

This was one of two dreams Nebuchadnezzar turned to Daniel for answers, the second spoke of his downfall. Nebuchadnezzar was inturn succeeded in time by King Belshazzar the son of Nabonidus and was to be the last king before the Babylonian Empire collapsed, conquered by the Persian king Cyrus the Great in coalition with King Darius of the Medes in 539 BC. Media having been absorbed into the Persian Empire which Darius in turn would rule. Looking back at Nebuchadnezzar image, he being the head of gold now the rise to power the shoulders and breast of silver, the Medes and Persians.

Daniel 7.

7:2. Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

7:3. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.
|
7:4. The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

7:5. And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

7:6. After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

7:7. After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

7:9. I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

7:10. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

Looking back at Nebuchadnezzar image five kingdoms are envisaged, the head of gold, Babylon. The shoulders and breast of silver, the Medes and Persians. The thighs of bronze, the Grecian Empire. The legs of iron of which there two namely the right and left, the Roman Empire. Then the feet of iron and clay which will be destroyed by a rock made without hands. A Kingdom not yet known but will be destroyed by the Ancient of days whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool.

Revelation 1.

|
1:12. And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

1:13. And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

1:14. His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire;

What I find interesting in the above verses of Daniel is the various kingdoms seen in the image now are given the symbolic form of deferent animals. Babylon is now described as a lion having two wings denoting the speed of its conquests, Babylon having conquered the former Assyrian Empire then under Nebuchadnezzar Judea and Jerusalem. The Medes and Persians like a bear raised up on one side, it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. The ribs being the three Empires conquered by them, being Babylon, Lydia and Egypt. In the vision Daniel describes the bear as being raised up on one side which is attributed to the one being the greater than the other in this coalition, the Persians being the stronger force.
Of great interest in following Daniel's road map is that he only mentions four kingdoms in these passages whereas the image of clearly depicts five. Following the Medes and Persians is a third the thighs of bronze now depicted as a leopard having four wings. The fourth he saw and described as being "dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns." This kingdom is in turn conquered by the Ancient of days, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head is like pure wool. It isn't to difficult to see who this conquer is looking at the verse of Revelation 1:14. Jesus.
Looking again at the image of Nebuchadnezzars dream, what the Bible and history have so far revealed we can see the kingdoms as Daniel first interpreted each one in chapter 2 verses 37-44.

Daniel 2.
|
|
2:37. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

2:38. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

2:39. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
|
|
2:40. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

2:41. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

2:42. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
|
|
2:43. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

2:44. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

The Grecian Empire now enters the series of kingdoms seen by Daniel in the visions he was given during his life of captivity in Babylon. The thighs of bronze also described by him as a leopard having four wings, Dan 7:6. Of interest in chapter 7 the Roman Empire which we know from history concurred the Grecian is bypassed and we find the next verse 8 describing the kingdom with ten horns, the feet of iron and clay which is destroyed by the Ancient of days, Jesus at His second advent.
The Grecian Empire.
Alexander the great conquest of the known world of his time is well documented in many historical archives. In his conquests he overran the Persian Empire including Anatolia, Syria, Phoenicia, Judea, Gaza, Egypt, Bactria and Mesopotamia and extend the boundaries of his empire as far as the Punjab, India.

The Empire of Alexander The Great.

Alexander's Empire was indeed vast only to be outdone by the one that would conquer it, Rome. Upon his death at the age 33 in approximately 323 BC. His Empire was divided amongst his four generals, Cassander, Lysimachus, Ptolemy and Seleucus creating four separate and smaller Empires of their own. Cassander taking Greece and Macedon, Lysimachus taking Thrace and Asia Minor, Ptolemy Egypt and Seleucus the eastern or former heartlands of the Persian Empire, Seleucia on the Tigris being his capital for a short time moving to Antioch on the Orontes in northern Syria.
Daniel in his visions sees the Grecian Empire as with the others in a number of symbolic forms.
1. As the thighs of brass from Nebuchadnezzar dream, Dan 2:39, "And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth."
2. As a leopard having four wings of a fowl, Dan 7:6, "After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it." The leopard having four wings symbolic of the speed of Alexanders conquests, the four heads being the four generals noted above.
3. As a he goat in Dan 8:5. This is where the visions become interesting in the road map leading to the antichrist.
Daniel 8.

8:3. Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

8:4. I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
|
8:5. And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

8:6. And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.
|
8:7. And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.

8:8. Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.

The he goat in this vision that crushes the ram is again symbolic of Alexanders conquest of the Medes and Persians now depicted as a ram having two horns, one horn higher than the other that being the Persians. continuing on into chapter 8 the sequence of events becomes a little clearer.
Daniel 8.
|
8:20. The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.
|
8:21. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
|
8:22. Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
|
8:23. And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
|
8:24. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
|
8:25. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

8:26. And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

The Grecian Empire appears to be the Empire concentrated on in this chapter, its conquest of Medes and Persians. Symbolically depicted as a rough goat having a notable horn between his eyes, Dan 8:5. This notable horn being the king of Grecia, Dan 8:21, "and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king". The first king spoken of here could only be Alexander the great Dan 8:22. "Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power." At Alexander's death as covered above his four generals carved up his empire into four separate kingdoms, out of one rises a king of fierce countenance in "latter time of their kingdom." Dan. 8:23. The four kingdoms again being Greece, Asia Minor (Turkey), Egypt and Assyria (Syria), all within the boundaries of Alexander's Empire.
"And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people." Dan 8:24. This king that will rise in the latter time of their kingdom rises not in his own power which leads me to a verse in 2Thess. 2, "Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders." He shall cause craft to prosper, witchcraft, he shall magnify himself in his heart and also stand up against the Prince of princes. Dan. 8:25. It is becoming quite clear just who this king is as there is only one king who will stand up and fight against the Prince of princes, Jesus, that being the coming antichrist who will rise out of one of the four noted above nations. Daniel is told to shut up the vision as it was not to be for many days or his lifetime, it was a future prophecy. Dan 8:25-26.
As with chapter 2 this chapter also completely bypasses the Roman Empire, jumping from the Grecian directly to the coming and final kingdom of the antichrist which Jesus will destroy at His coming, His second advent. I don't think this could be an accident or a repeated misprint, Rome was never a part of the Alexander's conquests the opposite being the case. This would tend to indicate that western Europe or what we term today as the European Union will not be the area or any nation within the Union from which this king of fierce countenance will rise, putting to rest any idea of him coming from Rome, being an apostate pope as an example which some have stated. The only value Rome may play in the prophecies of Daniel is that it depicted as two legs of Iron, symbolic of the two divisions of the Roman Empire, the western division and the eastern, both of which are limited to being within the boundaries of the Grecian in Daniel's visions. Rome, Italy or any nation west or north of Greece are clearly counted out of this western division as seen by Daniel.
Chapters nine and ten of Daniel tend to contain prophecies more to do with Israel, its return from the captivity of Daniel's day and end time prophecy which concern Israel only. Dan. 10:14. "Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days." Not until entering chapter eleven do we see the picture narrowed down to just two of four kingdoms that of Ptolemy, Egypt and Seleucus, Syria. Ptolemy the king of the south and Seleucus the king of the north. The Ptolemaic empire reigned over Egypt from approximately 332 to as late as 30 BC. Some sixteen kings ascending to the throne, Cleopatra being one of the better known in the Ptolemaic dynasty. Numerous wars were waged with Syria during this period most notably under Ptolemy II engaging in several.
Seleucid dynasty founded by Seleucus approximately 323 BC after Alexander's death continued to around 60 BC. Seleucus ruled over not only Babylonia, but the entire enormous eastern part of Alexander's Empire, going as far as India trying to reclaim Alexander's area of influence but being plagued by wars and civil wars the dynasty over the course of some 31 rulers lost much of the territory Alexander had conquered, the last in the dynasty being a Philip II Philoromaeus his reign lasting only one year. The Roman governor of Syria, Aulus Gabinius seeing to and aiding in the end of the Seleucid dynasty.
From Daniel chapter 11 the time and detail given to both these kingdoms it would appear that the antichrist will arise from one of them now the question being, which one? It may be of interest here to look at the character of this individual as given in Daniel's visions and other scriptures.

He will be an outstanding and spell binding political speaker. Dan.7:8.

His dominion will only extend over the ten nations some already existing, some yet to be formed possibly as a result of war within the boundaries of the former Grecian empire, the unknown results of what we are seeing in Iraq today, not the entire world but the known world of Daniel's day. Dan.7:24.

|
He will appear at first great as a leader, solving the deepest and most troubling war like problems between nations seen as a revolutionary leader of peace, the rider of the white horse. Rev.6:2.
|
|
4.
|
He is a homosexual as he has no desire for the company of a woman, one or more. Dan.11:37.
|
|
5.
|
He will possibly be a Jew or of Jewish heritage as he shall not regard the God of his fathers. Dan.11:37. Possibly from the tribe of Dan which is not mention among the twelve tribes of Revelation chapter seven. Genesis. 49:17. "Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse's heels, so that his rider shall fall backward." The use of the phrase "Dan shall be a serpent" is interesting in itself particularly when it comes to the book of Revelation. Genesis 49 starts with verse one stating "And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days." Should the antichrist be a descendant of the tribe of Dan, a Jew he will cause horse's rider to fall backward, to backslide or to be deceived, deceive Israel into believe he is the Messiah they are still waiting for.

He will sign a peace treaty with Israel allowing or aiding in the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Dan.9:25-27.

The temple in Jerusalem is the only place the orthodox Jews would hold or recommence the daily sacrifice. The Jews will possibly believe him to be the Messiah for a short time. He breaks the peace accord and invades Israel setting up an image of himself in the temple. Dan. 8:11. 11:41. Matt. 24:15.

I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. John.5:34.

He will force all within his ten nation area of influence to worship him and his image in the temple of God. matt. 24:15. Rev.13:12.
|

He will force all within same area of influence to receive his mark, possibly a silicon chip type barcode under the skin of the forehead or right hand without which none will be able to buy or sell. Rev. 13:16.
|

10.
|
He will survive an attempted assignation, a deadly wound possibly a shoot to the head will be miraculously healed. Rev.13:3.
|
|
11.
|
He will suffer a bad dose of greed honouring the god of gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. Dan.11:38.
|
|
12.
|
He will also honour the god of forces, namely military force being how he will subdue his opponents strengthen his strong hold on the Middle East. Dan.11:38.
|
|
13.
|
He and his great military force will be destroyed will by the Prince of princes, Jesus at His soon coming second advent. Dan.8:25. 11:45. Rev.16:14. Rev. 19:20-21. Rev.20:10.

The final two nations.
The nations of Egypt and Syria formally the great Assyrian empire of which the Syria we know today is only a remanent of have been through the centuries very undesirable neighbours to the nation of Israel to this very day, notably Syria. Both still exist today in geography and attitude as they have done for centuries, both seem to feature more than others in varying forms and times of Daniela's visions. Rome which many claim will be the central to the coming antichrist dose not receive the attention be it indirectly in the book of Daniel as these two even though Rome conquered both. The king of the south, Egypt, the king of the north, Syria, Israel which is central to all Bible prophecy is geographically placed between both. I feel at this point it not unacceptable to look into what the Bible has to say of these two nations and to state that this man of sin, the final antichrist will come from one of the two.
History has recorded many conflicts between these two countries down the centuries after the death of Alexander, between his generals and their descendants as noted above until both fell to the conquest of Rome. Daniel prophases speak of another series of conflicts toward the end time, given that from verses 5-35 of chapter 11 cover the succession of both the kings of the south, and of the north Syria, and their numerous conflicts. All the kings in line from Seleucus I Nicator, Antiochus I Soter (the savoir), Antiochos II Theos, Seleucus VI Epiphanes (manifestation of the god) also (the madman) down to Philip II Philoromaeus (friend of the Romans) had lives full of wars, civil wars and internal family intrigue not all being from the general area of what was northen Assyria or sharing the same capital, some being Antioch in Syria to Babylon and beyond, a number being of the Ptolemaic stock from Egypt. Reading into some of the individuals personal family lives I don't think the world is that much sicker today after all. Getting back to Daneil.
Daniel 11.

11:36. And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

11:37. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
|
11:38. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
|
11:39. Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
|
11:40. And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

11:41. He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

11:42. He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
|
11:43. But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
|
11:44. But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
|
11:45. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
|
The time frame shifts from history to future on reaching verse 36 of chapter 11, the king mentioned in this verse who exalts himself and magnifies himself above every god and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods can be none other than the future antichrist. The wording of the verses is clearly future or prophecy as in verse 40 this yet unknown king is invaded again by the king of the south, Egypt at the time of the end. Being invaded by the king of the south verse 40 continues to clearly show who he is. "And the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over." The king of the south is defected in a counter attack by this king who comes against him with overwhelming force.
On conquering Egypt his lust for power and wealth lead him as far as Libya and Ethiopia as to whether he also invades these countries is not clear, Egypt though will no longer be a military power of any value as a result of this conquest. He then turns his attention to the glorious land, Israel though it would appear Israel was on his agenda in this military conquest from verse 41. He sets up his headquarters between the seas, the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea on the holy mountain, the Temple in Jerusalem to continue his conquest of Israel and the sounding countries but news from the east and the north interrupt his campaign. He has to leave his conquest of the remaining areas of Israel to go and deal with advancing forces from a country north of him. He being the king of the north as verse 40 shows, there is only one nation not under his control to the north that could be powerful enough to confront him militarily, that being Russia. All that I have looked into leaves only one nation from which he could arise that being a powerful nation as a result his reign, Syria.

Isaiah 1.

7:17. The Lord shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

7:18. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
|
|
7:19. And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
|
|
7:20. In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.

Who the antichrist could not be.
|
He is a man and any reference to anything other such as a city, a nation or group of nations is of course entering the realms of dream land and any who claim him to be so seriously need a good reread of their Bible after all it is Gods holy word.

"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." Rev. 13:18.

Rome or any person from Rome eg. A Pope, Rome was never part of the Grecian Empire. Naming any one person from or Rome itself would be wondering off Daniels road map in the wrong direction.

Russia and again any person from Russia eg. The present President Vladimar Putin, Russia also was never a part of the former Grecian Empire. The antichrist, the king of the north is forced to war with Russia, so Russia is also out of contention.

A nation within the European Union, the European Union itself or anyone one person from a nation within the Union. The European nations in the Union were never part of the Grecian Empire save Greece itself and Turkey. The European Union currently has 25 member states the antichrist will rise from a yet to be formed ten nation confederation of which Greece and Turkey are the only nations that may be in this confederation. The European Union or a person from is also out of the possibilities.

Some have stated him to be the US or a city in the US namely New York. The US apart from not being in existence at the time of the Grecian Empire or New York or a person from that part of the world again puts that one to rest in the waste paper basket.

Some have stated him to be the church, an apostate church in their view namely the Catholic church but like all mainstream denominations excluding some that are little more than demonic cults. The Mormons who decided God needed a bit of a hand by writing their own book of Mormon, the Bible not being adequately sufficient in obtaining salvation and the different extremes of freemasonry of which the Mormons are purely an offshoot. The church as a whole regardless of denomination is the Body of Christ, those who believe in the apostles creed, the name of Jesus as Lord of Lords of course will not be here when the antichrist is revealed. So that theory is also assigned to the waste paper basket.

The alphabetical numeric value fable.
I am also well aware of the alphabetical numeric value theory associated with the man of sin, his number being 666, Rev. 13:18. Many name people known to us all or well known people and places are named as being the antichrist by using this theory. The theory being that A=1, B=2, C=3 and so on till we come to the end of the alphabet where Z=26. This code being used in varying forms from the English, Greek and Hebrew alphabets and the results as different as each new day as are the numeric values some jumping by tens once reaching J which is 9 then instead of K being 10 it all of a sudden becomes 20, L 30 and so on until S where it jumps by 100s. Those using the alphabetical theory depending upon which alphabet or value is used come up with a number of people and places which not only is so ridicules it is also totally unscriptural. The church which Jesus founded and called the salt of the earth has to be taken out of the way, raptured before this man can be revealed. 2Thess. 2:7-8. "For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming."
Many have sited the Papacy as the seat from which the man of sin will rise more so than any other, one such organisation being the Seventh Day Adventists. I have no intention of demeaning them or their doctrines though I can not agree with many of them, not being the theme of this subject plus I have met and know a number of Adventists who have at times acted in a far more Christ like manner than I, which some days wouldn't be a very difficult task to achieve. They use Roman Numerals as the base of their formula which in their view exposes the seat in the Vatican as the seat of the final antichrist.
Roman Numerals used and their numeric value are as follows:- I = 1 V = 5 X = 10 L=50 C=100 D=500 M=1000.
Using the Latin words Vicarivs Filii Dei and the Roman Numerals the results come out like this:-

The Pope or his seat has never been called "Vicarivs Filii Dei" (Vicar of the Son of God) or as some state "Vicarius Filii Dei" giving U the same value as V. To my knowledge nor have I seen it used in any documents I have looked into given any other meaning other than or similar to the "Vicar of Christ", and this doesn't fit any of the formulas I have also tested. The best I can come up with for the word 'Pope' is 0 to 205 again depending on which value is used. What's that TV show I enjoy? "The Myth Busters." I think I can safely say this one is "Bustard" to borrow their expression.

I know there is always going to be those that are totally sold on such theories, maybe in the case of The Papacy I shouldn't have used Roman Numerals, the Greek alphabet which is short two letters would be more in line with the time Revelation was written also knowing the Hebrew could be the one we should use but I believe John wrote Revelation in Greek noted above, the Hebrew also only having 22 letters. I should makeup my own I think to ensure whom I feel like to naming as the antichrist dose = 666.
Both the Hebrew and Greek alphabets having been around a lot longer than the English is possibly the reason four of the letters namely W, X, Y and Z in the English are given the value of 0 by some although in another they are given the value of W = 23 , X = 24 , Y = 25 and Z being 26. This not only helps in confusing any would be investigator or reader who may feel they have come across some factual evidence depending upon whose work they are reading. It may also be extremely important in making some of the different numeric values work, or be seen to add up reviling the identity of any number of people these stealthy investigators chose to identify as the antichrist. One site I happen across identified him as being an Alien, namely from Mars possibly a rock from that planet which I believe there are numerous, he could one just hiding there amidst all the others until conditions are right down here.
Another purpose for the numeric value being the lengthy and valuable time waster it is, many seeking out the identity of an antichrist, testing every formula known is that it helps to get our minds of the very reason we as Christians are here. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Matt. 28:19. Wining souls to Christ, especially in these days of need.
I must take one more look at how Mr. Apel using the 100% simulated recycled paper in producing his web page got the results confirming Mr. Hasselhoff as being the antichrist before winding up this rubbish.

Being only 139 its not quite the 666 I was looking for. I better take another look, oh, now I see.
"Now, since thirteen is such a fitting number for evil, let's multiply the first 13 numbers together. The total (65,874,124,800) is approximately 6.6 billion. Tack on the remaining 6's from the end of his name, and you've got yourself the mark of the beast." Right!? I wonder if the NASA people left 13 out of their calculations being such a naughty number if it would have made any difference getting to the moon and beyond. I have been amused at times owing a motel which has a room with that evil, naughty and unspeakable number 13 on the door, the people who wouldn't stay in it or on the property because of it you could say startled me. After going to great lengths explaining the 13 on the door only indicated that it was the room after 12 and the one before 14 they still wouldn't stay!
Mr. Apel dose add at the bottom of his page this short note still using 100% simulated recycled paper. "Hope you've had fun with this web page, and I hope you don't take me too seriously. Really, this whole thing is a joke. I'm not a religious psycho." To which I truly must agree.
There is one man that could fit the calculations as being the antichrist, he is firstly a Jew, good start, he also resides in the US, a possibility and has had a lot to do with world politics particularly in the Middle East and world finance, looking better. Though he is a little on the elderly side these days but the number of his name using the first set of numeric values fits the bill, he being Mr Hennery Kissinger.

Oh I forgot to add, the results must be multiplied by 6 otherwise the theory doesn't work and don't add his first name or any initials in his name as that will put him in the clear and make the theory as usless as all the rest.
One last way of looking into 666 as some have pointed out is 600, 60 and 6 denoting a succession of antichrists namely demonically driven kingdoms, nations ruled by very unsavoury kings or kings that either hated God or who did not know or recognise Him, Jesus as God. One example given is the Roman Emperor Nero, he was what could truly be called an antichrist as far as the early church was concerned. He not only had many of the saints of his day in Rome put to the sword, given to wild beasts in that round stone sports arena but also used as tar covered burning lamp posts to enable the good people of Rome to clearly see their way home after a long days entertainment. HE also apparently removed his unborn son with the use of a knife from his wife's womb which resulted in both dying then openly married a twelve year old boy. I think you could truly call him an antichrist as a result of his record, as to who the others in this succession could be is up to the imagination or to whom history may disclose. Hitler also I suppose would defiantly qualify as one but even this method gives us know idea of who the last one will be, if Nero and Hitler are anything to go by the man of Revelation 13:18 I don't expect he would be one you are likely to invite home to meet mother or lunch with.
The book of Revelation which the first three chapters consist of an uncovering or a revelling of Jesus as He truly now is, His assessment of the church's condition. He corrects them, gives some warnings regarding walking off in the wrong direction, flowing manmade doctrines but mainly He encourages them to remain strong in their faith and commends the bulk of the church for being so. On entering chapter four John paints in words a prophetic picture of the rapture of the church. Rev. 4:1. "After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. 2. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne." Reading on through the rest of this chapter it becomes very clear that it is the church in heaven. The church will not be here when this man is revealed so any attempt to discover who his identity is just one big waste of 100% simulated recycled paper and your valuable time.
The remainder of Revelation is namely addressing the nation of Israel, the Jews and the non Jews alive during this period who did not receive Jesus while the church was still here of what to expect. I feel that only the Jews of this period, the tribulation and many others as chapter seven tells us will understand the correct numeric value identifying this man as chapter 13:18 states. Anything regarding the subject before this future time is plain bunkum no matter how convincing some of the formulas may appear.
